2018 | The 8 Single Malt Scotches That Offer the Best Value

Updated: Sep 3, 2019

8 of our favorite Single Malts that will be available to taste at this year's WeHa Whiskey Festival

1. Bowmore 15 Year

95 Points, Wine Enthusiast. Bowmore’s celebrated Single Malts have been distilled on the southernmost Islay known as, "the Queen of the Hebrides" ever since 1779. This makes it the first of Islay’s eight distilleries chronologically speaking. Delicious dark chocolate, sun-dried fruits and a tell-tale wisp of Islay smoke. Wonderful cedar wood and rich treacle toffee on the palate. A robust and complex finish with a hint of sherry tannin.

2. The Macallan 15 Year Triple Cask

96 Points, Wine Enthusiast

Built in 1700 from locally quarried sandstone, The Macallan distillery remains one of the most recognizable names in Scotch Whisky. The Macallan’s curiously tiny stills are amongst the smallest on Speyside. Their unique size and shape give the spirit maximum contact with the copper helping to concentrate the spirit and provide the rich, fruity, full-bodied flavors. Find a hint of rose and cinnamon on the nose and intense, rich chocolate, with a hint of orange and raisin on the palate.

5. Bruichladdich 2010 Islay Barley

92 Points, Whiskey Advocate. Bruichladdich believes terroir matters and islay whisky should have an authenticity derived from where it is distilled and where it is matured. Bruichladdich 2010 Islay barley emerges with crisp sweet apple, ripe gooseberry and peach. The malted barley brings brown sugar and toffee, while aromas from the toasted oak are calm and restrained as a backdrop, allowing the malt and spirit to shine.

Aberlour is a Gaelic word meaning ‘mouth of the chattering burn’ (stream). Deep and concentrated aromas of nuts and raisins. The flavors in the mouth begin spicy, slowly turning to sweet dried fig and candied nuts. The texture is rustic adding to the intensity of this whisky.
